★撤回論文をどうして引用するのか？
上記の表に示すように論文撤回後でも被引用数はかなり多い。撤回論文なのに、どうして引用するのか？
2015年12月31日のキース・コリンズ（Keith Collins）の「Quartz」記事に次のようにある。出典：Why researchers keep citing retracted papers – Quartz
- 撤回例として引用する。これは問題ない。
- 撤回されたことを知らないで、論文内容が正しいとして引用する。これは大きな問題である。
後者の「撤回を知らないで引用する」のはどうしてか？ 以下に示す4つの理由がある。
- 論文データベースのPubMed や EMBASEは撤回を適切に表示していない。
- 紙印刷した研究ジャーナルの撤回告知がわかりにくい。
- ウェブ上でも撤回論文の32%は「撤回（retracted）」の表示をしていない。・・・ R Grant Steen の2011年の論文「Retractions in the scientific literature: is the incidence of research fraud increasing? — Steen — Journal of Medical Ethics」
- 著者は、自分の論文（論文A）、に先人の論文（論文B）を利用するとき、その論文Bが引用した論文Cを自分の論文Aにも引用する。その時、論文Cの原典を読まないで、コピーして引用する。・・・「Effects of article retraction on citation and practice in medicine」（1999）論文の著者の1人・John Buddの説明。
